Six years ago, several leaders of the Open Source movement stepped forward to discuss their new vision for software development in Open Sources, a collection of essays that was published at a time when this "radical" software practice was just starting to take hold in the public's imagination. Now that open source software has entered the mainstream, another group of prominent technologists examine the effectiveness of the movement, and whether open source software has lived up to its potential both within the technology community and outside of the tech sector.
